SIMEC - Glenshero Wind Farm - Meet the Buyer Event
Friday 4th October 2019

In October 2018, SIMEC submitted a S36 Planning Application for Glenshero Wind Farm to the Scottish Governments ECU (Energy Consents Unit), located approximately eight kilometres north west of Laggan. The proposal is still to be determined and is for 39 turbines, with an indicative capacity of 168 MW. If consented, it will allow us to produce renewable energy for the business, help underpin our GREENSTEEL strategy and provide a platform for new growth.

If given the go ahead, the project would represent approximately £23 million of spend in the Highlands economy and we are determined to work with local companies where possible to deliver the wind farm. We are therefore holding a Meet the Buyer Event on Friday 4th October from 10am at the Lochaber Smelter, Fort William to outline to local businesses opportunities connected to the project.

The event will include short presentations and an opportunity to meet some of the team working on the project. If consented, some of the opportunities during the construction phase are:

Construction materials suppliers - Concrete, aggregates, building materials, geotextiles, culverts.
Construction contractors - Civil engineering, electrical and building contractors, steel fixers.
Plant Hire contractors - Excavation, earthworks, craneage, traffic management and signage, site compound (inc cabins, security, welfare).
Labour hire companies - Engineers, plant operatives, labourers, setting out engineers.
Ancillary support -  ecologists, ornithologists, clerk of works personnel, site investigation contractors.
